Passive Immunity

6.4.1 Passive Immunity This immunity occurs when an animal receives antibodies made by another animal. This type of immunity provides immediate protection but does not last long. Newborn animals receive antibodies (passive immunity) from their mother by drinking colostrum, the mother's first milk. Without the colostrum, the animal has no protection against common diseases in the area and may die.
