For Pills
4.7.1 For Pills For large pills, called "boluses", a "balling gun" can be inserted GENTLY into the "corner" of the animal's mouth where there are no teeth. Gently maneuver the balling gun over the gums and tongue. Never jam the balling gun into the mouth or force it deep into the throat because this may cause serious injury and infection. Once the balling gun is inserted, push the plunger gently to place the bolus onto the back of the tongue.

Note: If there is no balling gun, a smooth-edged stiff tube may be inserted as described for the balling gun. Then slide the pills through the tube onto the back of the animal’s tongue. This tube must be long enough for the pills to fall into the back of the mouth.
