14.1 Types of fresh wounds There are three main types of wounds: 1. sharp cuts and tears; 2. scrapes (abrasions); and 3. puncture (deep) wounds. Wounds that were made with a very sharp instrument will often bleed more. Deep puncture wounds are more susceptible to tetanus. Wounds that involve a joint are very serious and the animal may have permanent damage to the joint even if the wound heals.
